You might want to be sitting down for the “Prototype” video premiere by Viktoria Modesta… because I guarantee that even the most devoted shoe lover has never seen a woman rock a pair of stilettos like this before.
Forget what you know about disability…
Viktoria Modesta is a 26-year-old Latvian born pop artist, DJ, model and revolutionary. After over a dozen operations and finally a voluntarily amputation at the age of 20, Viktoria has reinvented herself in British pop culture and her artistic mission challenges the ways in which we view disability. Prepare to have your mind blown by her avant garde style and her uncanny ability to make a bespoke prosthetic leg look downright sexy. As you will see, there is nothing “disabled” about this woman or her tenacity.
According to her personal website, Viktoria’s “cutting edge style and work with prosthetic designer at The Alternative Limb Project has been pushing the boundaries of socially acceptable image in press. Her media presence has been strong within UK press with features in iD, Wonderland, Grazia UK (and Italy), LOOK, Notion, The Times, Music Week, PRS Magazine, and Bizarre Magazine (4 covers) amongst many international lifestyle and fashion blogs.”
For me, her style is reminiscent of some of my favorite photographic works by David LaChapelle.
In short, Lady Gaga and Beyonce have got their work cut out for them.
Be sure to stick around for the “spike dance” at the end of the “Prototype” video originally released by Channel 4 just 2 days ago. I predict a tidal wave of support and a major break out for this amputee pop star in the making. Viktoria has spawned the #BornRisky hashtag and I love the empowering message behind it.
